PACA Staff to Visit YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School
Part of PACA's concrete promotion efforts has us partnering with the NRMCA's Build With Strength program. We are seeking to increase concrete's market share of concrete buildings, by not only promoting the benefits of concrete construction, but also through providing training to industry.

The Philadelphia market represents a large opportunity for us and we have recently had discussions with the Executive Director of YouthBuild Philadelphia regarding the Build With Strength ICF construction training program. The program was instituted in late 2018 with the idea of developing a database of certified ICF installers.

YouthBuild's mission is "to empower young adults (18-20 year-olds) to develop skills and connect to opportunities by fostering an environment of love, support, and respect for their whole person. Students graduate high school and successfully transition to college and career as critically conscious leaders, committed to positive change for themselves and their communities."

Staff will be visiting a YouthBuild jobsite to learn more about the program with the goal of offering the ICF training program to their students the first quarter of 2020. We will keep you posted as we move forward.

If you're interested in learning more about PACA's education and training efforts, please contact staff.

Changes to the Skid Resistance Level (SRL) of Pennsylvania Aggregates and Presentation on SRL Research to all PACA Members at the PACA Annual Meeting.
PennDOT has recently announced that they will be looking to change the system by which all Pennsylvania Aggregates will be rated for skid resistance. This issue has the potential to affect every aggregate and concrete producer in Pennsylvania.

A Proteam consisting of a widespread number of stakeholders from the Department and Industry has been formed to be the oversight group for this effort. A “SRL Technical Workgroup”, consisting of PennDOT and Industry members of the AQIC, has been formed to provide guidance and recommendations the larger Proteam.

To help provide a better understanding of this complex issue PACA, has invited Dr. Armen Amirkhanian from the University of Alabama to address our membership at the Annual Meeting. Dr. Amirkhanian has recently completed an extensive SRL rating research program for Alabama DOT. Alabama’s similar geology and history of SRL specifications, along with his assessment of the varying SRL rating systems across the states make Dr. Amirkhanian’s recent research pertinent to the current discussion here in Pennsylvania.

Dr. Amirkhanian will address our entire membership at Monday afternoon's general session of the PACA Annual Meeting.

This is a unique opportunity for all of your management, operations, and technical personnel to better understand this complex issue that has come to the forefront of our industry here in Pennsylvania.

DEP Mining eDMR Submittals Gentle Reminder
As we have indicated previously, the DEP Mining group has begun using an electronic version for NPDES eDMR submittals. As of now, they have not indicated a drop-dead date by which you will need to start using this system, and EPA has not yet pushed them to do so.

At yesterday's Aggregate Advisory Board meeting, however, they indicated they may possibly need to implement a specific date, if more companies do not begin using this. It is to your advantage to begin to utilize this system now, so you are able to work out any glitches you may encounter with DEP.

Thanks to those companies already using this system. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact Josie Gaskey.
