The education workshop features the following two presentations:
Introduction to MSHA - How to Manage Before, During and After an Inspection
By Michael Peelish, Law Office of Adele Abrams, PC
The instructor will take the audience through a journey of MSHA’s intended purpose which is to enforce the Mine Safety and Health Act. The presentation will address the responsibilities of the mine operator before an inspection occurs as required by the Mine Act; the authority of MSHA and the rights of the mine operator during an inspection; and the accountability that falls to the mine operator after an inspection if things are not right. We will explore how a mine operator can manage its business to eliminate potential compliance issues, and how to professionally manage the situation when MSHA does conduct its statutorily required inspections. The audience will be asked to participate by providing real life examples of situations they have encountered which will allow for discussion on applying the practices and techniques presented.
