Josh Sayles is Jewish communal civil rights professional and resident of Squirrel Hill. Currently the Director of Community Relations for the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh, Josh is a member of the crisis management team that not only responded to the Squirrel Hill shooting the morning of October 27, but continues to pursue avenues to heal and protect the community. Josh is Vice President of the board of the Pennsylvania Jewish Coalition, which in 2016 passed a law that prevents the State of Pennsylvania from procuring contracts with companies that support the BDS Movement. His Community Relations Department is the central address in Pittsburgh for fielding anti-Semitic discrimination complaints. Previously, Josh served as the Assistant Director for the Anti-Defamation League’s (ADL) Connecticut Office where he lobbied the state’s federally elected officials for stronger hate crimes laws and anti-bullying statues, a safe and secure Israel, and a non-proliferated Iran. Under his supervision, Connecticut became the second of 27 ADL regions in the U.S. to proactively educate high school and college students on how to advocate for themselves in the face of anti-Semitism and anti-Israel activity on campus. Josh was also a Staff Writer for the Jewish News of Greater Phoenix where his beats included hate crimes, Israel, and interfaith relations. He is a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, Class of 2007.
