What is your Job Title?

General Manager

What is your favorite part of your job?

The most rewarding aspect of my job is observing and acknowledging progress. Whether it’s seeing someone on the team improve a product or their skill set or reaching goals that we set as a company and celebrating them. What I would define as my favorite part of my job is simply learning. New ideas, procedure, regulations, people…. And the list goes on. And not only what I learn, but what we all learn, and what we even teach each other.

What did you want to be growing up?

As a young lad I thought being a “brain surgeon” would be awesome. To be able to fix someone’s brain with tools, how cool would that be! As I got older that faded away and I developed a love for the outdoors. I thought if I went to college studying environmental science, I would be able to do countless professions beneficial to natural resources and wildlife, and, love doing it.

What are you proud of?

My family. How I see my two children behave, there fantastic academic scores, their interests in life in general, make me one heck of a proud dad. I am extremely proud of my wife. Every step she has made in her career and her ability to push forward when our lives get crazy is very humbling for me. I am very proud to stand next to her and my kids.

What is something not many people know about you?

I studied secondary education with a focus on biology in college. I thought keeping science in a profession and adding the enjoyment I get when teaching something new to someone would be a great career. I was studied to be a high school teacher.

Anything Else you want to share?

I’ll share almost anything with anyone if asked. EXCEPT my food. Its mine, and I love it. I once ate 50 wings in one sitting. That, I am also proud of. =)

Picture Caption: Family pictures are always entertaining. Move your hair, your shirts wrinkled, stop making faces, MOVE! My crew hates being in photos. I love when we get are pics taken, because they don’t LOL. My wife Kristin, my daughter Mayson, and my son Declan.

What is your Job Title?

Senior Geologist

What is your favorite part of your job?

I enjoy helping my clients find solutions to their environmental and permitting challenges. Each challenge is unique and every day is different. This keeps me on my toes – there is never a dull moment in environmental consulting!

What did you want to be growing up?

An attorney.

What are you proud of?

Professionally, anytime DEP issues a permit for a project that I have worked on. Nothing gives me greater joy (professionally) than seeing a project reach the finish line.

Personally, my two sons. Watching them grow and excel in school and sports has been very rewarding. Most weekends you will find me cheering on a sideline somewhere.

What is something not many people know about you?

On the weekends in the winter, you will find me and my family at Jack Frost Mountain. I have been teaching skiing there for the past five years, alongside my Dad. My sons and husband spend their days skiing, and my younger son (Mason) is also on the Jack Frost Race Team.

What is your job title?

President

What is your favorite part of your job?

Favorite part of your job My favorite part of my job is building relationships with our employees as well as customers and vendors. It is also exciting now that my oldest son is interested in the business and I am looking forward to being able to work with him (and hopefully his brother) in the future.

What are three career lessons you’ve learned thus far?

What are three career lessons you’ve learned thus far? One lesson I have learned is that you need to be active in your industry to stay ahead. We have been members of PACA for as long as I can remember and I have formed many lifelong friendships through the association that I can lean on when I have questions. Take the time now that you are in the YLDG to develop those relationships with the other young members of PACA, they can be friends you will count on for your entire career. Another lesson is you need to be active in your local community. We operate two stone quarries that are in very visible locations so we need to be sure that we operate them in a safe and environmentally conscious manner as well have good relationships with the municipalities they are located in. Having those relationships is something that takes work to develop, but pays dividends in the end. Take time to spend with your family. It is amazing how the time flies buy and you want to be sure you do not miss out on things. I am constantly amazed when I look back and see how much we have grown as a family. And if you don’t have a family yet be sure to take time for yourself, it is an industry that demands long hours and you will need time to recharge!

Do you have any YLDG memories?

Unfortunately, I was at the age where I “may not” have qualified for young leaders at the point it was starting. I was able to attend the meeting in Pittsburgh a few years ago and just seeing the camaraderie among the group was great. I think they even had a push-up contest in the bar at like midnight. That is when I knew I was too old for those meetings. Another cool thing was the past summer meeting the young leaders group was having a good time “networking” at the bar after the meetings were over for the day and they welcomed my son Matthew into the group and he had a great time hanging out with them as well. I am hopeful he is able to build those relationships like I did when he is out of school and getting started in the business.

When you are not working, what do you enjoy?

When you are not working, what do you enjoy? I enjoy spending time with my family. My wife Jenn and I have been married for 25 years this year and have two boys, Matthew Stone and Ryan Clay. We also have a German Shepherd named Sulley who enjoys his daily trips to the quarry with me. As a family we enjoy spending time in North Wildwood in the summer and trips to Walt Disney World as well. I enjoy golfing and now both boys have picked up the game so we get to do that together as well.

Final Thoughts

When I was younger I spent about 14 years in the NSSGA young leaders and a lot of people who I went through that program with are now board members for the association and that is my hope for this group as well. This group represents the future for our industry, take advantage of it.
