PACA E-Alert – Penn College Students Seeking Support for ACI Competition
Penn College Students Seeking Support for ACI Competition
Over the course of the last several years, PACA has formed a relationship with the Pennsylvania College of Technology, specifically in the development of their new Concrete Science Technology program.

We recently received a letter from Joe Debucci, a student in the program, regarding a competition they will be competing in this year. Some of you may have met Joe when he attended our Annual Meeting in November.

Below is the note I received. If you are able to assist them, I know it would be appreciated.

Dear Ken,

I am writing on behalf of the ConCreate Design Club at Penn College to share some exciting news with you. We are happy to announce our plan to compete, for the first time, in the American Concrete Institute’s Student Competition. Please feel free to share the following information!

We will participate in the Fiber-Reinforced Concrete Bowling Ball Competition held in Chicago from March 29 – April 2, 2020. The objective of this competition is to demonstrate the behavior of fiber reinforcement within concrete, gain experience in forming and fabricating a fiber-reinforced concrete element and use our creativity with compliance in engineering design and analysis.

This competition requires knowledge and experience about concrete, fiber reinforcement, material behavior and bowling. We are ready and excited to compete but we need your help. Our goal is to raise $5,000 to help offset the cost to attend. As a thank you, all sponsors will be recognized on a banner at the competition and on our social media platforms. We will share a short summary of our team’s performance with all of our supporters upon our return to Penn College. Any donations past our goal will be placed towards the budget for the next ACI competition the we compete in.

The Concrete Design Program, just 16 months old, has already captured the imagination of Penn College, as well as the greater community, with its creation of such innovative products such as a concrete table, concrete fireplace and a variety of ornamental ConCreations. The opportunity to attend this competition would provide our program with global recognition and experience working with this element.

Support us today by making a gift online at pct.edu/give. You can also send a check, payable to “Penn College Foundation”, to Institutional Advancement, DIF 64, One College Avenue, Williamsport, PA 17701.

Thank you for helping us reach our goal!

Sincerely,

Joe DiBucci, LEED Green Associate
